When I Think Campfire, I Think S'mores!

I'm imagining a colorway of dark chocolates and whites dusted with a caramel coloring surrounded by graham cracker browns. I'd call it S'mores. Yummy! If only I knew how to dye yarn.

I have about six different knitting projects in progress.

This week I'm concentrating on socks for my dad. I'm using Cider Moon's Campfire Socks pattern. It's the Winter Twilight colorway in Glacier.

Also, my violets are in bloom! This little plant came to me about three years ago. The previous owner feared they might die under her care. Now, they live happily on our windowsill.

C to the A to the L to the I

We enjoyed our time in Southern California. We stayed with our friend Brady who lives in North Hollywood. Being an awesome guy, he let us run off with his car for the entire vacation! He also had a bathroom goblin (pictured below) who had a habit of getting into the chalk and drawing all over the floor (Brady recently removed the carpet from his bedroom, leaving a cement floor that was begging for color).

Now for some of the highlights of the trip:

1. Susiecakes
Mmmmm. Jonathan's uncle's girlfriend, Susan, opened a bakery last year, so of course we had to stop by and indulge in sugary fun. I recommend going there if you're ever in the area. Seriously, delicious. Delicious. Delicious. All of the scrumptious treats are made fresh everyday and everything's from scratch. No mixes here, baby! Yummy cupcakes, homemade puddings, cookies and layered cakes. I even got one for my birthday! And it was melt-in-your-mouth perfect! Jonathan kept eating the pudding!

2. A Star Sighting
We saw a real, honest-to-goodness star at the corner of Hollywood & Highland. Unfortunately, we were in the car, otherwise we would have definitely "pounced" at the opportunity for an autograph. Who was this great star you ask? Tigger! I suspect he was on his way to Pooh Corner (and probably extremely hot as it was 100 degrees that day).

3. A Beach & A Fish Taco
Drove along the PCH. Hung out at most of the beaches. Ate some fish tacos at Wahoo's. My favorite beach? La Jolla. I've always loved La Jolla.

4. La Brea Tar Pits
The whole time I lived out there I never went to the tar pits. This time I did! Learned a lot. Like, don't stick your foot in tar. And it's saber-toothed CAT not saber-toothed TIGER. Oh, and tar pits are full of gas and kinda stinky. Not unlike boys. ;o)

5. Lots of Other Fun Stuff, Like...

Hanging out with our friend, Brady, at the Tonga Hut, drinking yummy, froufrou drinks with pineapples and coconuts while metal music played merrily into our ears. A dichotomy of island life and 80s metal hair bands. Strange. Unexpected. Enjoyable.

Eating at yummy places like the Buddha's Belly, Tart and The Old Town Mexican Cafe which has the best homemade, corn tortillas.

Driving along Mulholland and not flying off into the valley.

Venice Beach. Melrose.

Visiting Chapman University, my Alma Mater.

We had fun! The only thing I didn't get to do was go to a knitting store. Can you believe it?! Our friend's place was in some type of vortex that didn't allow for DSL hook-up, so we had no internet while we were there and I forgot to look stores up before we left. Oh, the horror of it all!

Other than a lack of a knitting fix, good times were definitely had!

Taking Care of Business

I spent the last hour and a half getting my stash in order. My stash is relatively small compared to others, but in the last few days it decided to make itself at home in almost every room in the apartment.

This is no longer the case!

Each little skein, cake and leftover now sleeps soundly in a cubby hole, blissfully unaware of the chaos caused by its wayward wanderings across the living room, bedroom and office floors.

Awwww, aren't they cute?

Their sister sticks have also been wrangled and placed in a lovely ol' bit of pottery.

Serenity restored.

Following this restored serenity comes the determination to turn every piece of yarn from the stash into a wonderful something. Woohoo!

Next post: California!

A Safe Return

I'm in the midst of unpacking and getting back into the routine of things. It always takes a few days to adjust after vacation. :o)

I'll write more about our SoCal Adventure soon, but until then here are two photos to tide you over!

Lotus and Los Angeles

Just wanted to share a lotus blossom I created with pastels the other day.

And...

We're heading to L.A. in a few days for a bit of birthday fun and the visiting of old haunts.

Hooray!

Hooray!

Sarah: Have a blast at the knitting convention!

Karen: Hope you had (legal) fun in Arizona!

Now, I must return to trip preparations!
